Introduction

CERTIFIED CODING SPECIALIST is a Diploma program taught at Mountwest Community and Technical College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (2 years) options.

The Certified Coding Specialist program is a Certificate of Applied Science with 43 credit hours. Students learn to analyze and classify medical data and assign codes to diagnoses, injuries, and procedures using universally recognized coding systems: ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT-4. The program also builds familiarity with coding systems, medical terminology, and medical background in anatomy and diseases.

Instruction supports understanding of how codes are reported to insurance companies or government agencies for payment or reimbursement of patients’ health expenses, medical statistics, and research. Students have the opportunity to complete a directed practice of 60 hours in a virtual healthcare environment or healthcare setting.
