The Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (PhD-BA) at National University is a research-based program. Students prepare for leadership roles by developing knowledge and competencies in business, administration, and technology management, including broad knowledge in business and technology management and understanding of at least one specialized area of study. The PhD requires original ideas about a specialized topic and methodological and scientific rigor.

The program is 100% online and takes 40 months. Students complete 20 courses and 60 credits. Each foundational course runs for 8 weeks, while dissertation courses have a minimum duration of 12 weeks. The degree includes required foundational courses taken first and in sequence, then specialization, research, and a doctoral elective sequence, followed by dissertation research courses.

Admission to the doctorate requires a master’s degree from an accredited institution. The program requires a minimum of 60 credits through the University, a GPA of 3.0 (letter grade of “B”) or higher, completion of the PhD-BA Pre-Candidacy Prospectus, university approval of the dissertation manuscript and oral defense, and submission of the approved final dissertation manuscript to the University Registrar. Graduates are expected to be prepared for positions in the private and public sectors.

The minimum requirements for admission in Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration at National University for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:

• All financial obligations must be met before the student will be issued their complimentary diploma.

Graduation requirements in business include a minimum of 48 credit hours of graduate instruction completed through the University, Grade Point Average of 3.0 (letter grade of “B”) or higher, satisfactory completion of the PhD-BA Pre-Candidacy Prospectus, University Approval of Dissertation Manuscript and Oral Defense completed, and submission of the approved final dissertation manuscript to the University Registrar, including the original unbound dissertation manuscript and an electronic copy.
