Doctor of Philosophy in Education
Introduction
The Doctor of Philosophy in Education (PhD-Ed) at National University is a 100% online doctorate designed to build knowledge in a chosen specialization and develop research skills that culminate in dissertation research. Students examine ethical principles and professional standards, and they share research through presentations and publications. The program alternates specialization courses and research courses.
The PhD-Ed can be completed in 37 months and requires 20 courses and 60 credit hours. Each foundational course runs 8 weeks, and dissertation courses run 12 weeks. All incoming PhD-Ed students complete a required writing assessment during their first course (TIM8101). Students receive support from advisors and faculty through the course and dissertation process.
The program is intended for students who primarily want to teach in higher education, conduct educational research, or work in educational research. It focuses on enhancing the body of knowledge in education by contributing through new research or by adding to completed research. Students may need additional credit hours to complete dissertation research.
