Introduction

The Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership (DNP) at National University is a 100% online degree designed to advance students into nursing leadership positions. Students explore organizational leadership and interprofessional team development, contemporary healthcare topics, and the financial structures that support nursing practice. The program also covers advocacy for healthcare policy improvement and frameworks for advanced nursing practice, including evidence-based practice and quality improvement models.

The DNP includes both didactic and practice experience courses. Students complete a minimum of 46 credit hours across 13 courses, with foundational courses running 8 weeks and dissertation courses running 12 weeks. The program includes practice experience hours and requires completion of a DNP Project, submission of an approved final DNP Project, and committee approval steps for dissertation coursework.

Admission requires an earned MSN with a 3.0 GPA and a current, active, and unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN). The program prepares students for broader leadership roles as a nurse executive within healthcare organizations and includes preparation to participate in and lead interdisciplinary teams.
