Practical Nursing
Introduction
Practical Nursing is a program taught at Northern Maine Community College, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (9 months) options.
Practical Nursing at Northern Maine Community College is a certificate program that prepares students to become licensed practical nurses. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to provide nursing care throughout a patient’s lifetime. The program prepares graduates to be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN exam after completion.
Teaching combines hands-on learning in health care facilities, NMCC’s nursing lab, and the campus simulation center. Students train in a realistic, hospital-like environment using advanced simulation rooms with interactive mannequins and dedicated instructor control rooms. Skills lab training supports practice through nursing skills lab and a medical assisting lab, with live observation and recorded playback used during debriefing classrooms.
Graduates may work as practical nurses in hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, home health care, physicians’ offices, and other health care settings. Practical nursing is also described as a pathway into NMCC’s Associate Degree Nursing program, with potential LPN advanced standing after at least one year of work experience as an LPN.
