Art and Design Education, BFA is a Bachelor program taught at Pratt Institute, USA. Intake: Fall. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 Years) options.
The Art and Design Education, BFA at Pratt Institute is an undergraduate program within the School of Art. Students complete the Foundation program’s core curriculum in the first year, including required art history and liberal arts courses. They then begin the art and design education curriculum in the fall of the sophomore year and study studio practice, teaching experience, and community engagement.
Students choose between two degree paths: art and design education with New York State certification or community art and design education. In their sophomore year onward, they take a sequence of a minimum of 18 studio credits in an art or design discipline, select a studio core discipline through individual advisement, and develop their work across semesters.
Both paths include teaching experience in K-12 public schools and other settings, with students deciding which path to pursue in their junior year. Students in community settings complete student teaching requirements in community-based settings. All students teach in Saturday Art School, then complete an integrative capstone that supports reflection and research in art and design education, culminating in a senior exhibition.
