Writing, BFA is a Bachelor program taught at Pratt Institute, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 Years) options.
The BFA in Writing at Pratt Institute is an undergraduate degree in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The program builds foundational courses in critical thinking, research, and world literature, then moves into specialized writing electives such as songwriting, journalism, and screenwriting. Students also take classes in art and design and transdisciplinary minors.
Coursework culminates in a book-length senior thesis project. It can take the shape of a novel, memoir, screenplay, or graphic novel, or a collection of poems, short stories, or experimental essays (or a mix of forms and images). Students gather with peers twice a week for intensive studios built on feedback and generative writing.
Students also build experience through editing student publications, The Prattler and Ubiquitous, and through the Writing Lives Pathway. Internship and fieldwork options include opportunities arranged through a dedicated internship coordinator, plus Fieldwork for community-engagement projects. In-program professional training is provided through the Writer as Worker course, with weekly visits from guest authors, agents, editors, journalists, teachers, filmmakers, and communications experts.
