Medical Coding Certificate
Introduction
Medical Coding Certificate is a program taught at Southeast Arkansas College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Medical Coding Certificate at Southeast Arkansas College prepares students with knowledge and skills for basic medical coding. The program emphasizes the purpose of coding, definitions of key terms, accurate application of coding principles, and an overview of the impact of prospective reimbursement on coding. It also covers principles of classification systems, nomenclatures, indexes, and registers.
Students develop coding competency in both hospital and physician practice settings. The acceptance procedure includes completing SEARK College admission requirements and providing qualifying reading test scores or developmental reading course completion, along with transcripts and a computer literacy requirement.
Admission Requirements
The minimum requirements for admission in Medical Coding Certificate at Southeast Arkansas College for all applicants (Domestic or International) are:
- program specific academic requirment set by Southeast Arkansas College.
- English Language OR any other language requirments as set by Southeast Arkansas College as pre-requiste for admission in Medical Coding Certificate.

- High School Diploma (or GED Equivalency)
- Complete all SEARK College Admission Requirements.
- Provide one or all of the following test scores: Accuplacer Reading score of at least 75 Next Generation Accuplacer Reading score of at least 251 ACT Reading score of at least 19
- Possess a 2.5 Grade Point Average.
- Provide transcripts from all colleges and/or schools attended.
- Must be computer literate
- COMPASS Reading score of at least 83, OR Completion of a courses in developmental reading with a letter grade of C or better.
