Introduction

Phlebotomy Tech is a program taught at Southeast Arkansas College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (One-semester program) options.

The Certificate of Proficiency in Phlebotomy Technology is a one-semester program that prepares students to collect, transport, and handle blood and other body-fluid specimens safely and accurately. Students learn blood collection equipment, venipuncture, capillary collection, specimen collection procedures, and pre-analytic complications, including collection from adult, pediatric, geriatric, home, and long-term care clients. The program also covers forensic toxicology.

Students complete 9 credit hours, with laboratory experiences that reinforce classroom instruction and provide hands-on practice in specimen collection. The curriculum includes HEAL 1216 Introduction to Phlebotomy Technology, taught with campus laboratory support. Clinical facilities are provided through affiliation agreements with hospital and laboratory sites.

Graduates may apply to seek certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Phlebotomists may pursue opportunities in hospital laboratories, outpatient laboratories, physician offices, and medical clinics.
