Human Service is a Bachelor program taught at Southern Oregon State College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.
The Human Service BA/BS prepares undergraduate students to become human service professionals with a broad and deep understanding of human behavior, society, and social justice from both a psychological and sociological perspective. The curriculum includes a guided practicum of 270 hours. Human Service majors also complete a senior capstone project that integrates and applies skills and knowledge from the human service coursework and the practicum. The capstone includes developing a social service program with needs assessment, a program rationale, objectives, methods, activities, and a plan for program evaluation. Students work with faculty in a small class format.
Students in the program strengthen their ability to work effectively in social services and focus on improving well-being for individuals and families. The program emphasizes informed engagement with social policy formation and community empowerment, and graduates address community challenges such as homelessness, economic hardship, and hunger; issues associated with drug use; racial injustice; and family violence.
