Doctor of Occupational Therapy
Introduction
Doctor of Occupational Therapy is a PhD program taught at St. Ambrose University, USA. Intake: Fall start; rolling admissions. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (34-month program) options.
The Doctor of Occupational Therapy at St. Ambrose University is a hybrid program that prepares students to help people across the lifespan take part in everyday activities that matter most. Students complete a total of 102 credits, including level I fieldwork rotations, level II fieldwork rotations, and a doctoral capstone. The program starts with lecture and lab experiences focused on the professional foundation of occupational therapy, then examines how client and environmental factors affect occupational participation.
Instruction uses a hybrid delivery model that blends distance learning with on-campus activities. Students complete on-campus courses at St. Ambrose University in Davenport or at Loras College in Dubuque, and they take courses online and on campus in dedicated learning labs with assistive technology and industry tools. Students also gain hands-on experience with assistive technology at Jim’s Place. Fieldwork experiences and the doctoral capstone are completed nationally and internationally.
The program includes pathways for high school students and for college students, including an accelerated 3+3 pathway. Some early admission applicants may bypass the typical interview process required for traditional students. Prospective students applying as sophomores and juniors may be selected for professional interviews focused on academic, personal, and professional preparedness for graduate studies.
