Introduction

Anthropology is a Bachelor program taught at State University of New York at Binghamton, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Anthropology major gives students an understanding of cultural and biological variation among past and present human groups. It covers how cultures and societies form, how language influences worldview, evidence of the human past in the archaeological record, human biological evolution, and how biology and culture shape health and medical practices. Students also learn and apply the research methods and theories used by anthropologists to investigate peoples and their social worlds.

Students may choose a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a Bachelor of Science (BS) track. The BA offers flexibility in course selection, while the BS integrates scientific training. Both options include study in archaeology, biological anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and sociocultural anthropology.

The department offers field- and lab-based research methods, a Freshman Research Immersion (FRI) stream in molecular and biomedical anthropology with laboratory experience, and a six week archaeology field school each summer. Students can also join study abroad and arrange internships for anthropology credit.
