Introduction

Geological Sciences is a Bachelor program taught at State University of New York at Binghamton, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Geological Sciences at Binghamton University is an undergraduate program within the Department of Earth Sciences. It offers BA in Geological Sciences, BS in Geological Sciences, and BS in Geological Sciences: Environmental Geology, along with minors in Geochemistry, Geological Sciences, and Geophysics. The program focuses on understanding and solving major earth and environmental problems, including energy needs, global warming, environmental pollution, natural disasters, and life under extreme conditions.

Students can also take part in research. Research may involve assisting a graduate student or professor in the laboratory or field setting, or conducting independent study that culminates in a senior thesis. Undergraduate research is not required, but it is highly recommended, and completion of such a project may qualify a student for departmental honors upon graduation. Research areas include watershed-scale soil and water pollution studies, paleoclimatology and paleoceanography, remote sensing, and geomicrobiology of extremophiles.

After graduation, most students with a BS or BA either continue their education in graduate school or enter the job market in earth science fields. These include environmental consulting, energy, government regulatory or planning, and teaching, primarily earth science.
