Introduction

Cinema Study is a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) major at State University of New York at Cortland. Students study how cinema shapes culture and identity, and they develop critical thinking to critique and analyze moving images. The program’s interdisciplinary approach lets students study with experts in art, communication, English, geography, history, media studies, modern languages, theater, philosophy, political science, and psychology.

Students build filmmaking skills across storyboards and post-production editing, and they have structured independent learning in research, writing, production, and presentation. Opportunities include student-run campus media and clubs, an extensive internship program, and a portfolio of study abroad opportunities. The program also includes the opportunity to intern at the Blackbird Film Festival.

Students can also get involved through campus media roles such as writing for the university newspaper, hosting a radio show, producing TV programs, or editing a magazine. The program connects learning to production activities through student-run outlets like The Dragon Chronicle, CSTV, and WSUC-FM The Dragon.
