Introduction

Adolescence Education: History & Social Studies is a Bachelor program taught at State University of New York College at Brockport, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

Adolescence Education: History & Social Studies is an undergraduate major that prepares students to become expert social studies teachers and historians. Students develop a broad knowledge base and strengthen skills in critical thinking, research, communication, and problem-solving, for teaching social studies in a 5th–12th grade classroom.

The program includes experience with lesson planning and teaching social studies for grades 7–12 at a local school. It culminates in hands-on student teaching in a social studies classroom, with direct mentorship from a local teacher. The Field Experience Office helps place students for field experience and student teaching.

Completion of the program prepares students to seek initial certification to teach social studies grades 5–12. Students may also pursue dual certification by adding initial certification in Students with Disabilities (all grades) to their initial certification in Adolescence Social Studies (Grades 5–12).
