Introduction

Biology is a Bachelor program taught at State University of New York College at Geneseo, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Biology major at SUNY Geneseo builds a broad foundation for careers in the biological sciences and medicine. Students study basic principles of genetics, ecology, evolution, cell biology, and anatomy and physiology. The program also develops skills in scientific decision-making and written and oral scientific research presentation, with an emphasis on biological diversity and stewardship for the earth.

Coursework spans molecular, cellular, organismal, and ecological levels of organization. Labs focus on designing and testing hypotheses, using modern scientific equipment, and interpreting data. Students can pursue undergraduate research opportunities, and summer internships may be available at Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Upstate Medical. Full- and part-time summer fellowship awards are also available from The Geneseo Foundation for research with a faculty mentor.

The program connects students to additional academic and career supports, including a pre-med and pre-health advisory program and the Biology Mentoring Program (Biome) for first-year and transfer students. Some graduating seniors have gone on to the NIH Postbac IRTA program, and CRTA provides an opportunity for recent college graduates to spend one or two years performing full-time research at the NIH.
