Introduction

Nursing AAS is a Bachelor program taught at Sullivan County Community College, USA. Intake: Fall, Spring. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time (4 years) options.

The Nursing AAS at Sullivan County Community College is a pre-licensure nursing program that leads to the Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S) degree and prepares students for the NCLEX-RN and entrance into the workforce as a registered professional nurse. The program uses the Patricia Benner framework of Novice-to-Expert to guide learning of the nursing process and critical thinking for safe, competent nursing care throughout the life cycle.

Students progress in sequential order, starting with a science foundation and then adding knowledge about the management of health conditions, health promotion, and skills for effective nursing care. Clinical learning occurs in multiple healthcare facilities in Sullivan, Orange, Ulster, and Broome counties in New York, and Wayne County in Pennsylvania. All clinical components run concurrently with lectures, and students complete Nursing Skills Lab and Simulation Lab assignments both inside and outside of class time.

To progress, students must satisfactorily complete all clinical components and receive a C+ or better in all Nursing courses. Graduates must meet criteria for good moral character as determined by the New York State Education Department to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
