Masters Brook
Introduction
Masters Brook is a Masters program taught at University of Alaska - Southeast, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
Masters Brook is a student research project on how stream and lake environmental conditions affect body shape (morphology) in an introduced population of brook trout (Salvelinas fontinalis). The work focuses on the brook trout population that was planted within the Salmon Creek Reservoir in Juneau, Alaska, and examines how environment and morphology interact, including whether the habitat is leading to new phenotypes.
The project uses the concepts of biodiversity, natural selection, and rapid evolution in variable habitats. It studies differences in morphology between stream and lake populations, with an emphasis on divergence in body shape between stream and lake groups. A faculty mentor, Carolyn A. Bergstrom, Ph. D., is named for the project.
