Introduction

Biology Teaching Endorsement - Transitional Certification Program is a program taught at University of Nebraska, Kearney, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Biology Teaching Endorsement Transitional Certification Program at the University of Nebraska Kearney is an online pathway for people who already have a baccalaureate degree or higher and want an Initial Teaching Certificate issued by the Nebraska Department of Education. It offers endorsements that include Biology.

The program uses online coursework plus field experience. It includes four 3-credit hour online classes for 12 graduate credit hours, with a minimum of 100 clock hours of pre-student teaching practicum across the four courses. It also includes one 6-credit hour semester of student teaching.

Students teaching on an Alternative Permit complete student teaching in their own classroom; others are placed with a certified teacher. Program participants must reside in Nebraska or be within commuting distance to a Nebraska school system.

Admission is available for two groups. Students who are teachers on an Alternative Permit apply with a bachelor’s degree and a teaching position in the endorsement area. Students pursuing initial certification without a teaching position also apply with a bachelor’s degree and a cumulative GPA requirement. After transcript review, a program of study is created and next steps are sent by email.
