Introduction

Architectural Engineering, BS is a Bachelor program taught at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

Architectural Engineering, BS focuses on how buildings are designed, how they withstand forces of nature, and how they are built and maintained. Students study how buildings function as a coordinated set of structural, electrical, communication, and mechanical systems, and how these systems support a building’s mission and occupants’ needs in a sustainable manner. The program emphasizes creative problem solving for energy needs, sustainable building systems, urban development, and community planning.

The degree requires a total of 126 credits, including General Education requirements plus major and ancillary requirements. Major courses include Statics, Mechanics of Materials I, Dynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Electric Circuits, Electric Power & Machines, Thermal Engineering Survey, and Heat Transfer and Ventilation Air-Conditioning, along with CE and architectural engineering courses such as Intro to Structural Eng., Intro to Construction Eng., and Intro to Architectural Eng. A capstone design course is included: Capstone Design: ArchE Bldg.

Students are strongly encouraged to prepare for and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination prior to graduation. The program also includes coursework in engineering statistics, engineering geomatics, and structural and construction topics such as Reinforced Concrete Struct I and Structural Steel Design I, plus Vertical Construction Methods.
