Introduction

Diversity and Inclusion Certificate is a program taught at University of Wisconsin - Parkside, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.

The Diversity and Inclusion Certificate is an undergraduate certificate from the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin–Parkside. It includes required coursework such as Introduction to Sociology (SOCA 101) and Race and Ethnic Relations in the U.S.

(SOCA 206), where students examine social relations and the formation and dynamics of race and ethnic relations in the United States.

Students also choose elective courses (6 credits) from options including North American Indians (SOCA 227), Peoples of Africa (SOCA 226), African American Studies (SOCA 324), Asians in American Society (SOCA 328), Social Institutions in Contemporary China (SOCA 329), and Latinas/os in the United States (SOCA 343).

The certificate is delivered in person. Students complete a practicum that includes Internship in Sociology (SOCA 492) for 3 credits and Diversity Circles (SOCA 107) taken 3 times for a total of 1 credit.

Diversity Circles are small group dialogues designed to help students become aware of their own biases and understand the impact of racism in schools, communities, and society. Internship in Sociology provides community work experience with emphasis on job preparation skills such as resume writing, networking, and interviewing.

The program focuses on careers in diversity specialization. Diversity specialists could work as program managers, facilitators, counselors, or learning specialists.
