Commercial Music
Introduction
Commercial Music is a program taught at Western Kentucky University, USA. The program is offered in campus-based modes with full-time options.
The Bachelor of Arts in Music with non-professional emphasis in music combines a liberal arts education with study across music theory and literature, aural theory, music history, conducting, and ensembles. Students choose a concentration: Music Extended (MUSE) or Music General (MUMM). Course work develops musicianship through conceptual understanding of musical properties and their interrelationships, along with opportunities for listening, performing, composing, and scholarship.
Degree requirements include 36–48 hours of music, and no music course with a grade below a “C” may be counted toward the major. Both concentrations include Music Theory and Literature, Conducting, Ensembles, and Performance Attendance for a total of 26 hours within the common requirements. Music-Extended adds Applied Music Principal, Group Piano I and II, and Music Electives; Music-General adds Applied Music Secondary, Group Piano I and II, and a second major or minor.
