Employment and Welfare Research Scholarship, PhD, UK, 2013/14

The Graduate School is offering a full-time PhD scholarship working with the  Economics Research Group (Faculty of Business and Law) under the supervision of  Professor Don Webber. This PhD scholarship is funded by Bristol City Council.  The scholarship is available from 1 October 2013 and consists of an annual  stipend of £13,760, subject to satisfactory progress for three years. UK/EU and  international students can apply for this scholarship. The application  deadline is 2 September 2013.

Eligibility: Applicants should have a good postgraduate  degree ideally in economics or a related business subject (geography,  psychology, planning, HRM, etc.). Candidates should also be able to provide  evidence of good quantitative research skills, although illustrating strong  qualitative skills would be a further advantage.

Scholarship Description: This  PhD Scholarship is funded by Bristol City Council. The aim of the scholarship is  to support an innovative research project that builds upon the interdisciplinary  nature of our economics subject cluster and which seeks to identify and  recommend real world economic policy to improve the employability and welfare of  individuals living in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Part of the research will be  based around creating a typology of employment transitions for individuals from  the rich to the poor ends of the society continuum.

What does it cover?The scholarship is available from  1 October 2013 (or 1 January 2014) and consists of an annual stipend of £13,760,  subject to satisfactory progress, for three years. In addition, full-time  tuition fees will be covered for three years (Home/EU rates only). Overseas  applicants will be required to cover the difference between the Home/EU and  the overseas tuition fee rates (approximately £7,565 per annum).
