Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarships for International Students Overview
For international students, the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarships are completely financed. Both master’s and PhD degrees are eligible for these awards. 1350€ per month will be provided via these scholarships. Additional lump sum payments of 100 euros are also available to cover the costs of additional healthcare subsidies and research expenses.
The Federal Foreign Office (Auswärtiges Amt) is the source of the funding for this programme. The maximum length of the scholarship is determined by the number of semesters or the average length of your studies (Regelstudienzeit).
If the requirements are met, the scholarship will initially be awarded for one year and later be given till the end. In addition to the Regelstudienzeit, extensions are allowed.
The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung’s Scholarship Department provides students with a wide range of assistance, including political education activities and summer schools, domestic and international conferences, symposia, and educational excursions.
Additionally, it arranges for practical training in areas like rhetoric, conflict resolution and other critical skills, time management and self-management, enhancing academic credentials, text and writing workshops, and specialised technique seminars.

To be eligible for the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung Scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Good knowledge of English
- German language proficiency at B2 level or above
- Open to applicants from all countries, with preference given to women, students from non-academic and migrant backgrounds, socially disadvantaged individuals, and those with disabilities
- Encouraged for students in scientific and technical disciplines, as well as graduates of technical colleges
- Applications accepted in German or English
- MA students must be enrolled at a state or state-recognized German university
- PhD students must be accepted at a German university with proof of enrollment
- Engagement in social, political, and/or community services
