Brot Fuer Die Welt Leadership for Change Scholarships

Brot für die Welt’s Leadership for Change programme (Germany) supports young people from the Global South and Eastern Europe who are committed to social, religious and ecumenical causes. The programme provides financial support to obtain a postgraduate degree in Germany in one of Brot für die Welt’s topic areas.

The programme is aimed at young people from the Global South and Eastern Europe who show above-average social commitment and leadership potential and are pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree in development policy or theology in Germany. Applicants come from nominating organisations (for example, NGOs, churches, Protestant universities in the Global South and Eastern Europe) with preferential consideration, and one third of scholarships can be awarded to independent applicants.

Selection is decided by a scholarship committee that meets once or twice a year in fall and/or spring to decide on scholarship applications. If interested, applicants must submit an initial inquiry form along with their resume and proof of admission to the German university for their intended course of study; applications are reviewed after submission of the completed inquiry form and corresponding documents.

Support includes a monthly scholarship to cover living costs, semester fees and health insurance. Scholarship holders also receive mentoring and support through study accompanying programmes with introductory and specialised seminars in development and ecumenism, plus networking and personal development. Scholarship holders are actively involved in designing the programme. The page provides no obligation requirements after the scholarship ends.
