DAAD-STIBET Scholarship for International Students

Financed by the STIBET-Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), TU Dresden’s International Office offers DAAD-STIBET Graduation Scholarships and Scholarships for Highly Committed Students, as well as Scholarships for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities to highly qualified international students of TU Dresden.

Graduation Scholarships are for international students of TU Dresden at the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student, with doctoral studies excluded. Scholarships for Highly Committed Students are also for international students of TU Dresden at the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student, and doctoral studies are excluded. Both exclude international students with multiple nationalities when one is German, and exclude exchange students who study one or two semesters without obtaining a degree at TU Dresden.

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a ranking list. For Graduation Scholarships, the ranking is based on the average grade of study achievements and on study progress in percent, using information provided by the Examinations Office (status of submission by the application deadline). If the average grade cannot be determined by the Examinations Office, the International Office calculates it in a simplified procedure in which all grades are treated as equivalent.

For both Graduation Scholarships and Scholarships for Highly Committed Students, the scholarship rate is EUR 300 per month. The funding period is 1 April–30 September (summer semester) or 1 October–31 March (winter semester). The duration is 3 months maximum, until the deadline for submission of the final thesis, and an extension is not possible. During the funding period, students must remain enrolled at TU Dresden and must not permanently stay outside their place of study (with stays abroad only possible within compulsory study requirements as described).

• General (applies to the scholarships described on the page): International students of TU Dresden at the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student
• Not eligible: International students in doctoral studies (doctoral students)
• Not eligible: International students with multiple nationalities when one of them is German
• Not eligible: Exchange students who only study one or two semesters at TU Dresden and do not obtain a degree at TU Dresden
• Not eligible: Study applicants who apply for a place to study at TU Dresden and are not enrolled at TU Dresden at the time of the scholarship application
• Graduation Scholarships (additional eligibility requirements): The prerequisite for funding is that the student has performed well (average grade of at least 2.5 achieved so far).
• Successful completion of studies is expected within one year, as certified by the Examination Office (studies expected to be completed by March 31 of the following year for summer-semester applications, or by September 30 of the following year for winter-semester applications) and at least 45% of the credits for the entire degree program have been completed, or the thesis has already been registered.
• No income from paid employment (internship or student job etc.) or state social benefits above EUR 634 gross/month; the sum of the STIBET scholarship rate of EUR 300/month and the income from paid employment and state social benefits may not exceed the DAAD maximum rate of EUR 934/month.
• No other scholarships during the funding period (regardless of the type and amount of the scholarship payments).
• No graduation scholarship has been awarded before/during the funding period (e.g. STIBET or GFF).
• Students must be enrolled during the funding period and must not permanently stay outside their place of study; stays abroad are only possible within the framework of a compulsory stay according to the study regulations, and in the case of leaves of absence, written proof must be provided by the examination office/faculty that a degree is also possible within a semester of leave.
• Scholarships for Highly Committed Students (additional eligibility requirements): At least three successfully completed examinations at TU Dresden.
• The student has performed well (average grade of at least 2.5 achieved so far).
• Evidence of an ongoing, regular commitment in an international context at TU Dresden (volunteer or minimally compensated) that will continue during the STIBET funding period, such as mentoring international students, assisting in cultural events or tandem/mentoring programmes.
• The commitment must take place or continue during the scholarship within the funding period.
• No income from paid employment (internship or student job etc.) or state social benefits above EUR 634 gross/month; the sum of the STIBET scholarship rate of EUR 300/month and the income from paid employment and state social benefits may not exceed the DAAD maximum rate of EUR 934/month.
• No other scholarships during the funding period (regardless of the type and amount of the scholarship payments).
• Students must be enrolled at TU Dresden during the funding period.
• Engagement criteria for Highly Committed Students: The engagement must have at least during the semester before the start of the scholarship (future engagements cannot be counted).
• The engagement must officially count as an volunteer position (= activities carried out for others in a self-determined and non-profit manner oriented towards the common good) and is only marginally remunerated, if at all.
• The engagement should have a minimum duration of 6 months; for a shorter commitment, a high level of impact must be demonstrated (example given: a large-scale fundraising campaign).
• Written proof from a TU internal institution or association about the duration, scope and nature of the social or intercultural commitment must be submitted with official letterhead and contact details of the person issuing the certificate.

5. After sending your email, check for the automatically generated ticket number, which serves as confirmation of receipt of your scholarship application.
