Einstein Forum Fellowships

Einstein Forum offers the Albert Einstein-Stipendium, funded through the Wittenstein Stiftung. The stated purpose is to enable outstanding young scientists from Germany and abroad to realize a research project that is situated outside their previous work, supporting young scholars who show cross-disciplinary engagement similar to Albert Einstein.

The fellowship is tied to a six-month stay at the property of Einstein’s summer house in Caputh, and the awardees receive support in the amount of 10,000 EUR as well as the travel costs. Einstein Forum describes the fellowship as requiring an appropriate documentation of the scientific work conducted during the stay.

Einstein Forum states that applications are evaluated based on quality, originality, feasibility of the project proposals, and the scientific career history of the applicants. The evaluation states that it makes no difference whether a PhD has already been started or completed. The project does not have to be finished within a fixed period and can serve as the entry point for a longer undertaking.

Einstein Forum states that fellowship work must be documented and includes giving a public talk at the Einstein Forum and the Wittenstein Stiftung. The fellowship is stated to be intended for work during the fellowship period and explicitly not for completing work that has already been started. Awardees are expected to reside in the garden cottage at Einstein’s summer house.

• Applicants must be under 35 years old.
• Applicants must hold a qualified higher-education degree in a field of the humanities, social sciences, or natural sciences.
