Hamburg Scholarship

HafenCity Universität Hamburg (HCU) offers the Deutschlandstipendium. The stipend is funded by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) and private sponsors. Its stated purpose is to award support to students based on performance and other criteria.

Applicants are all students enrolled at HCU. The stipend is awarded according to performance, social engagement, and Bildungsbiographie (educational history). HCU states that it is possible to apply again at regular intervals.

Selection is made by the Stipendienauswahlausschuss (scholarship selection committee). The committee includes a chair, the equal opportunities officer, three members from the group of university teachers, one student member, and up to two representatives of private funding bodies with advisory voting rights.

The funding amounts to 300 € per month and lasts 2 semesters. HCU states that the funding is not restricted to a specific use. The award is presented at a formal ceremony in the presence of the funding bodies.
