Studienstarthilfe des Bundes

Studienstarthilfe des Bundes is an own funding instrument within BAföG. It is aimed at students entering higher education and receiving social benefits, and it provides a one-time support payment of €1,000.

It is for students who are starting their studies and have social benefits such as Bürgergeld (SGB II), Kinderzuschlag (≠ Kindergeld), Wohngeld, or benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act. Applicants must not yet have turned 25 by the start of the training period and must be enrolled for the first time at a university in Germany, an EU member state, or Switzerland.

Support is applied for electronically through BAföG Digital. An application for Studienstarthilfe can only be submitted up to the end of the month that follows the month of the training start.
