Brandenburg Scholarship for Rural Teachers

Brandenburg-Stipendium Landlehrerinnen und Landlehrer is a scholarship launched by Brandenburg to encourage teacher-students to teach at Brandenburg schools that have a special need for fully trained teachers. The scholarship involves financial support as well as an “ideeller Teil” (ideal component) organised by the Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung (DKJS).

Applicants are Lehramtsstudierende from across Germany. The scholarship is available to those who apply with the start of the 5th subject semester. The intended commitment after the Staatsprüfung is to teach in regions with special demand for teachers in Brandenburg.

Applications are submitted via the Bewerberportal on the site of the Ministerium für Bildung, Jugend und Sport (MBJS). The scholarship text ties timing to the intended Förderbeginn: for Sommersemester, applications are possible within a stated window; for Wintersemester, within a stated window. After admission to the study programme, applicants can send their application documents to the chosen funding body; it should be done no later than the end of the second subject semester.

The scholarship amount is paid monthly for the duration of the remaining regular study period (verbleibende Regelstudienzeit). The ideal component includes special seminars and network events plus a mentor programme in the need schools, and participation is compulsory. After passing the Staatsprüfung, funded students commit to completing required practical elements and then working at least as many school half-years as the scholarship was granted.
