University of Bayreuth Short Term Grants Programme

The University of Bayreuth Centre of International Excellence “Alexander von Humboldt” provides Short Term Grants for short stays intended to support research projects in cooperation with a local host at the University of Bayreuth. The programme is open to all disciplines, subject to specific rulings for African Studies. The grants reimburse travel expenses between the home institution and Bayreuth and accommodation costs in Bayreuth.

Short Term Grants are intended for stays of about 1–3 weeks duration and are available to researchers regardless of field. Applicants must be individuals affiliated with institutions abroad and must identify a researcher in Bayreuth as a local host prior to submitting the application. Local hosts provide office and lab space and an up-to-date infrastructure.

The grants are awarded through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. Selection criteria include academic excellence of both the applicant and the cooperative project, and the potential for networking with the University of Bayreuth beyond the local host. The programme guidelines for eligibility, hosts, evaluation criteria, and stages of the selection process are described as rigorously binding; applications not adhering to them are not considered.

The grant will commence when the applicant signs the Declaration of Acceptance. The grant money is transferred with the first visit of the grantee to the University of Bayreuth. After the grant acceptance, the grantee must submit a report 15 months after the grant has been accepted.
