Wittenstein Foundation Einstein Fellowship

Einstein Forum – Albert Einstein-Stipendium (Einstein Fellowship) supports “outstanding young thinkers” who produce work in their field and wish to pursue a project in a different discipline, following Albert Einstein’s example. The fellowship is made possible through support from the Wittenstein Foundation.

The fellowship includes living accommodations for six months in the garden cottage of Einstein’s summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg, near universities and academic institutions of Potsdam and Berlin. The fellow receives a stipend of 10,000 euros and reimbursement of travel expenses. Candidates must hold a university degree in the humanities, the social sciences, or the natural sciences.

Applications must demonstrate the quality, originality, and feasibility of the proposed project, as well as the applicant’s superior intellectual development. The proposed project must be significantly different from the applicant’s previous work and is not meant to fund dissertation research. The proposed project must not be part of a dissertation or thesis.

At the end of the fellowship period, the fellow is expected to present the project in a public talk at the Einstein Forum and at the Wittenstein Foundation. The proposed project need not be fully completed during the fellowship, but it can begin a longer project. Einstein Fellows are expected to reside in the garden cottage.

• Must be under 35.
• Must hold a university degree in the humanities, the social sciences, or the natural sciences.
• Applicants must wish to pursue a project in a different discipline.
• Applicants must not propose a project that is part of a dissertation or thesis.
• Applications must include documents in English.
• Proposed projects must be significantly different in content, and preferably field and form, from the applicant’s previous work.
• The fellowship is not intended for applicants who wish to complete an academic study they have already begun.

• Living accommodations for six months in the garden cottage of Einstein’s summerhouse in Caputh, Brandenburg.

• Reimbursement of travel expenses.
• Stipend intended to cover living expenses and project expenses incurred during the fellowship period.
• Family may accompany the fellow during the fellowship period, but the fellowship will not cover family members’ travel expenses.
