HKUST Admission international awards Scheme

HKUST offers a Scholarship Scheme to honor outstanding International/Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists. For eligible admissions, the scheme provides scholarship funding linked to the Olympiad medal category, with support renewable for the normative duration of study where stated.

The scheme covers students who are International Olympiad Gold Medalists (International Biology Olympiad, International Chemistry Olympiad, International Mathematical Olympiad, International Olympiad in Informatics, International Physics Olympiad) and International Olympiad Silver Medalists in the same competitions. It also covers Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists (Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, Asian Physics Olympiad, Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad).

Students do not apply for the scheme. HKUST selects qualified students based on Schools’ or Program Office’s nominations, and HKUST informs selected students of the scholarship awards in due course. Top-up scholarship may be offered by the School/Program Office if the maximum limit is not exceeded.

Support is renewable for the normative duration of study for scholarship amounts that specify “renewable for normative duration of study,” subject to satisfactory academic performance where stated. The maximum limit noted is “Full Tuition Fee + HK$60,000 allowance” per academic year, which top-ups must not exceed.

• Student must be an International Olympiad Gold Medalist: International Biology Olympiad, International Chemistry Olympiad, International Mathematical Olympiad, International Olympiad in Informatics, or International Physics Olympiad.
• Student must be an International Olympiad Silver Medalist: International Biology Olympiad, International Chemistry Olympiad, International Mathematical Olympiad, International Olympiad in Informatics, or International Physics Olympiad.
• Student must be an Asian Olympiad Gold Medalist: Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad, Asian Physics Olympiad, or Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad.
• Students do not have to apply for the scheme; HKUST selects qualified students based on Schools’ or Program Office’s nominations.
• Support amount and renewal depend on the medal category (gold vs silver) and the scholarship type tied to that category.

• For International Olympiad Gold Medalists: full tuition plus living allowance of HK$60,000 per academic year, renewable for normative duration of study.
• For International Olympiad Silver Medalists: full tuition per academic year, renewable for normative duration of study.
• For Asian Olympiad Gold Medalists: full tuition plus living allowance of HK$30,000 per academic year, renewable for normal duration of study.
• Top-up scholarship may be offered by the School/Program Office, provided the maximum limit of “Full Tuition Fee + HK$60,000 allowance” per academic year is not exceeded.

3. Selected students are informed of the scholarship awards in due course.
