HKUST Beyond Academic Admissions Scholarships

BAAS is the Beyond Academic Admissions Scholarship at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. HKUST says it recognizes students’ achievements in diverse areas and supports applicants who show non-academic expertise so they can receive a quality education. It awards scholarship funding and also includes favorable admissions consideration(s).

BAAS is open to all prospective HKUST students across the globe, except it is not applicable to Mainland JEE applicants. It is for applicants applying for HKUST through JUPAS or Non-JUPAS (for international qualification holders or sub-degree holders). Mainland Gaokao applicants are not eligible. Local student athletes are directed to apply to Student Athletes Admissions Scheme (SAAS).

Applicants must meet HKUST’s minimum entrance requirements, the program requirements for the relevant programme, and English language requirements (if applicable) set by the relevant Schools/IPO. Applicants must also demonstrate satisfactory performance and positive impacts from their domain expertise(s) at local, regional, and/or international levels, with up to three achievement entries for each talent area. HKUST says multi-talents will be considered an edge.

BAAS provides scholarships of HKD 50,000 as a one-off award. For JUPAS applicants, HKUST describes favorable admissions consideration as different bonus score(s) corresponding to each HKUST JUPAS choice, given prior to the HKDSE result release date. For non-JUPAS applicants, HKUST describes favorable admissions consideration as one or multiple offers with BAAS-adjusted conditions together with the scholarship results. No further obligations after receiving BAAS are stated.

• Non-academic excellence requirement: applicants must showcase satisfactory performances and positive impacts of the applicants’ domain expertise(s) at local, regional, and/or international levels
• Achievement entry limit: each applicant can fill in up to 3 achievement entries for each area of talent
• Talent areas covered: creativity & innovation; leadership & entrepreneurship; arts, music, performance arts & multi-media; sustainability & community services; sports & e-sports; and any other areas of extraordinary achievements that can bring positive impacts to the University

1. Apply through the appropriate route: JUPAS applicants apply via JUPAS, and non-JUPAS applicants apply via Non-JUPAS (for international qualification holders or sub-degree holders).
2. Submit a BAAS application that meets HKUST’s minimum entrance requirements, the program requirements specified, and English language requirements (if applicable) set by the relevant Schools/IPO.
3. In the application, showcase domain expertise by providing up to 3 achievement entries for each area of talent, including evidence of satisfactory performance and positive impacts at local, regional, and/or international levels.
4. Upload the required supporting materials, including achievement proof and recommendation letters.
