University of Hong Kong (HKU) Global South Fellowship

The HKU Faculty of Social Sciences Global South Fellowship Scheme is established to facilitate exchange of knowledge and ideas among scholars and researchers from the Global South, with the aim of enhancing academic impact globally. Fellows receive support to visit the Faculty and engage in knowledge-sharing activities.

Applicants should be professoriate staff affiliated with universities or comparable institutions in the Global South region. The fellowship includes a visiting period that takes place during the fall semester or the spring semester, which are defined by calendar months in the scheme details.

Selection is based on research records and professional achievements, with preference given to junior scholars and researchers for their potential to commit to longer-term collaborations with the host department, centre, or hub.

The visit should last one to three months. Fellows receive a remuneration package that includes economy class return air tickets (reimbursed up to HK$10,000) and a per-diem allowance of HK$1,500 per day inclusive of accommodation for the entire fellowship period in Hong Kong. Fellows must submit a completion report to the Faculty Office within 3 months after the visit ends and share publication information with the Faculty Office in a timely manner.

• Economy class return air tickets of up to HK$10,000 on a reimbursement basis.
• Per-diem allowance at a daily rate of HK$1,500, inclusive of accommodation, for the entire fellowship period in Hong Kong.

1. Identify a Faculty member with similar research interests, who must be an Assistant Professor or above in the Faculty.
2. Email the Faculty member to explore partnership and potential collaborative research opportunities before submitting an application. The Faculty member will serve as the Faculty Associate during the visit.
3. Submit the application via the online application form by the application deadline.
4. For selection, note that up to 10 fellows will be selected per academic year and are selected based on research records and professional achievements, with preference given to junior scholars and researchers.
