Hydrology and Cryospheric Sciences Research Fellowship in Norway
University of Oslo is inviting applications for PhD research fellowship in hydrology and cryospheric sciences. Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in hydrology, meteorology, or related with documented knowledge on hydrology, relevant for a PhD-study in the above mentioned specialties. Eligibility: –Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in hydrology, meteorology, or related with documented knowledge on hydrology, relevant for a PhD-study in the above mentioned specialties.
-Course work in physics and mathematics along with demonstrated excellence in programming skills and the ability to work in a highly team-oriented environment are required. You should be creative and innovative with good collaborative skills.The candidate should have a good process understanding of Earth System Science and be comfortable with modeling concepts and tools. We are seeking candidates with a strong background in quantitative methods and experience with physically-based hydrological or land surface modeling, including own programming. Demonstrated experience working with large data sets, with preference for C++, Python, or R is required, preferably with experience on linux clusters.
-The position as PhD Research fellow (Stipendiat SKO 1017) is intended as a four year term with teaching responsibilities. If two equal candidates are considered, preference may be given to one with a good knowledge of a Scandinavian language (Norwegian, Swedish, Danish). With the teaching responsibilities, the fellowship will be for a period of up to 4 years, with 25 % compulsory work (teaching responsibilities at the Department of Geosciences). Otherwise, the fellowship will be for a period of up to 3 years, with no compulsory work. Starting date as soon as possible
-No one can be appointed for more than one fixed-term period at the same institution.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree. The fellowship requires admission to the research training program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline (made out in cooperation with Prof. Dr. J.F. Burkhart), must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission is to be approved within three months.

- Position as PhD Research fellow (Stipendiat SKO 1017) available at Department of Geosciences. The Department of Geosciences at the University of Oslo comprises sections for Geology and Geophysics, Geography and Hydrology, Meteorology and Oceanography, Physics of Geological Processes and the Centre for Earth Evolution and Dynamics (Centre of Excellence). The academic staff consists of 40 professors and approximately 80 research fellows. The specific topic of the Thesis will be developed based on the successful applicants own interests and expertise, however it is expected to contribute to the general area of snow hydrology and fall within existing research programs. Within the research group several projects on snow hydrology are in progress including collaborative research between The University of Oslo (UiO) and the Northern Research Institute (Norut) and Statkraft.

- Pay grade: 50 – 57 (NOK 421 100 – 473 400 per year).
