Cleveland State University: the applicant's brief

6 findings
  1. The short answer

Cleveland State University is a public research university in Cleveland, Ohio, and it suits students who want a large program choice in an urban U.S. setting. It also fits applicants looking for a university with doctoral-level research activity.

  2. What you can study

Cleveland State University offers over 200 academic programs across eight colleges. It is a public research university, so applicants should review the current program catalogue on the university website to see the exact degrees and subject areas available.

  3. Getting in

International applicants should apply through the university’s normal admissions process and check the official website for the requirements that apply to their level of study. They should confirm document requirements, deadlines, English language expectations, and any program-specific steps with the admissions office before applying.

  4. What it costs

The university does not publish a fee range for international students; confirm the current tuition with its admissions office. Living costs in Cleveland will depend on housing, transport, food, and personal spending, so students should budget separately for those expenses.

  5. Coming from abroad

The language of instruction is not stated, so confirm that directly with the university before applying. Students moving from abroad should also check visa steps, housing options, required documents, and whether their chosen program has extra admission conditions.

  6. How it compares

Among the 2,515 universities in the United States, Cleveland State University stands out more for its public status, urban location in Cleveland, and wide academic offering than for selectivity or a small campus model. Its doctoral research activity places it in the research-university group rather than among smaller teaching-focused institutions.

Written from this university's catalogue entry and its cited encyclopedia summary. Figures are only shown where the institution or a cited source publishes them — always confirm fees and entry requirements with the university itself before applying.
