The Bachelor of Anaesthesia Operation Theatre Technology prepares students to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in operating rooms. Students learn to prepare and maintain an operating room, assist the anaesthesiologist and the surgical team from the preoperative to perioperative period, and provide patient support in the recovery room. The program describes anaesthesia technologists as Allied Healthcare professionals who assist with the administration and monitoring of anaesthesia and develop knowledge of anaesthesia techniques, instruments, supplies, and technology.
Training includes access to hospital facilities for hands-on practice and laboratories for practical experience. Students also have access to libraries with publications on the latest developments in allied healthcare. The program is designed for relevance to the current requirements of anaesthesia technologists, and it includes an internship alongside the academic study. The program duration is 3 years plus 1 year internship.
