Bachelor of Design Programme

The Bachelor of Design at Vellore Institute of Technology (B.Des) is an undergraduate degree that focuses on creating products that are functional, aesthetically appealing, and ergonomically comfortable. The programme is described as building problem-solving skills in the domain of industrial design.

Teaching and training use studio and lab facilities for model-making, prototyping, and experimenting, including PROTICS Studio, 3D-iD Studio with 30 iMacs, Smart PD Lab, Ergonomics Lab, and a Painting Booth. Students are trained to integrate aesthetics, ergonomics, and engineering in a balanced way.

• Selection is based on a qualified UCEED score or V-DAT (Design Aptitude Test) score with 10+2/HSC marks in the qualifying examination.
• Mode: Regular, Full Time and Formal Education with English as one of the subject.
• Nationality: Resident Indian National.
• Qualifying examination: completion of one of the listed 10+2/HSC qualifications.
• Eligibility in the qualifying examination: a pass with minimum overall aggregate of 60% in any stream in the qualifying examination.
• Candidates with qualified UCEED score/V-DAT are only eligible for Admission.
• Portfolio: presentation of original creative works like sketching, drawing, painting, craft works, and photography, etc. (Weightage 30%).
• Personal interview (Weightage 20%).
• Written exam: VIT DAT is a written exam of 2 hours duration consisting of objective type questions (MSQ & MCQ), short descriptive answers, and creative ability questions with no negative marking (Weightage 50%).
