Master of Social Work

The Master of Social Work (MSW) at Vellore Institute of Technology is a two-year, four-semester postgraduate programme with a field and research focus. Students study a curriculum that includes university core, professional core, and professional elective credits, with three professional elective tracks: Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, Community Development, and Human Resource Management.

Learning includes three fieldwork practicums across the four semesters, a one-month summer internship after the first year, and a final-semester internship paired with an original dissertation. The final semester includes an Internship and Dissertation with Institutional Review Board ethical approval, original data collection, and a final viva-voce. The programme is offered at the VIT Vellore campus.

Any graduation with 60% marks (Inclusive of all subjects) from a Recognized University or Institution with a minimum of three years duration.

Performance in Group Discussions and Face to Face Interview.

• The eligibility criteria is relaxed by 10% in UG degree for applicants belonging to SC / ST and applicants hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
• Applicants belonging to SC/ST category should submit community certificate.
• Applicants hailing from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, should submit Nativity Certificate.
• Applicants from Correspondence / Open University mode are not eligible.

Admission is based on the performance in the qualifying examination U.G. (or its equivalent), with candidates called for the Personal Interview in the order of merit based on U.G. marks.
