Graduate Diploma in Community Mental Health Nursing

The Graduate Diploma in Community Mental Health Nursing at Dundalk Institute of Technology prepares learners with knowledge and critical thinking skills to promote positive mental health in the community, aligned with “Sharing the Vision - a Mental Health Policy for Everyone.” The programme develops advanced theoretical knowledge and innovative practice for community settings, including recovery in community mental health, trauma-informed care, integrated care, evidence-based practice, psychosocial interventions, leadership, and clinical decision making for advanced practice.

Dundalk Institute of Technology delivers the course one morning a week, typically from 09.00hrs to 12 or 13.00hrs, with live online lectures and 2 full days (09.00hrs to 16.00hrs in the semester) face to face workshops in DkIT. Students also complete independent learning. The programme is 18 months across 3 semesters, with blended delivery (online and in-class) and part-time study.

• Research Methods for Evidence Based Practice (10 ECTS)
• Psychosocial Interventions in Professional Practice (10 ECTS)
• Leadership and Clinical Decision Making for Advanced Practice (10 ECTS)

• Be a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with NMBI or equivalent
• Be currently employed in a setting providing services for individuals who experience a mental health disorder
• All applicants will hold a relevant Level 8 qualification in Nursing
