Master of Arts in Social Work Program

Technological University of the Shannon’s Master of Arts in Social Work (MSW) prepares students to meet the complex and evolving challenges of contemporary social work practice. The programme is developed with an emphasis on human rights-based approaches and social justice.

The programme combines academic and practice-based learning. In the first stage, students complete two days of classes and two days of professional placement each week. In Semester 1, students complete two days of classes per week, and Semester 2 is dedicated to a full-time, five-day block placement. These supervised practice placements support real-life skills and competencies for the workplace.

CORU approval means TUS graduates of the MSW meet the standards of proficiency for the profession and are eligible to apply for entry to the CORU Register of Social Workers, using the professional title social worker. The programme development included consultation by Tusla – Child and Family Agency.
