Italian Government Scholarships Overview
The Italian Government Scholarship is a fully financed scholarship available to international students who wish to study a master’s or doctoral degree at top Italian universities. The 900 euro monthly payments, tuition, and health insurance are all covered by this scholarship.
According to Law 288/55 and its subsequent amendments and additions, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) intends to advance international cultural exchange, Italian language and culture, scientific and technological cooperation, and the country’s economic system.
Scholarships are available to enrol in study, training, and/or research programmes in public and recognised higher education institutions in Italy.

1. Health and Medical Insurance
- Grantees will be provided with health and medical/accident insurance throughout the duration of their grant. Please note that this coverage does not apply to events stemming from pre-existing physical or pathological conditions.
2. Tuition Fees
- Depending on the policies of each University, grantees may be exempt from enrollment and tuition fees. However, it’s important to note that exemption is not granted for courses in Italian language and culture, for which enrollment fees are applicable.
3. Financial Grant
- Grantees will receive a generous monthly allowance of 900 Euros, disbursed on a quarterly basis, directly into their Italian bank account.

Flexible Duration: The scholarship offers flexibility in terms of duration. To be eligible for the Italian Government Scholarship for International Students, you must meet the following criteria:

3. Age Requirements:
- Applicants for Master’s Degree/Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM) Programs/Italian Language and Culture Courses should not exceed 28 years old by the scholarship deadline, with the sole exception of renewals.
- PhD Program applicants should not be over 30 years old by the scholarship deadline, with the sole exception of renewals.
- Applicants for Research Projects under academic supervision should not exceed 40 years old by the scholarship deadline.
4. Language Proficiency:
- Proof of proficiency in Italian is not required for courses taught entirely in English. A minimum level of B2 within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is required for research projects under academic supervision.
- For Italian language and culture courses, applicants must provide a certificate of their proficiency in Italian language, with a minimum level required being A2 within the CEFR.
5. Academic Qualifications:
- Admission to the first year of a Master’s Degree course in Italy requires the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in the applicants’ country of origin. Admission to the second year is granted to applicants who demonstrate progress in their first-year studies.
- To be admitted to an Italian AFAM Institute or a PhD program in Italy, applicants must meet the entry requirements and academic qualifications established by the relevant University/Institute. PhD applicants are also required to provide a letter of acceptance from the relevant Italian University.
- For research projects under academic supervision, grants can be awarded for projects carried out at various Italian Research Institutions under the academic supervision of public Universities, Museums, and Archives.
