This double degree combines the RICS master’s degree course in International Relations and Development Cooperation with the Master Programme in African Studies at Dalarna University. The African Studies programme focuses on the African continent through multidisciplinary teaching, covering political, social, and economic characteristics of African societies from the nineteenth century to the present day, with work on cultures, religions, politics, gender policies, food issues, education, urbanization processes, human rights, and governance. Students also formulate research questions and communicate them through oral and written papers.
The study approach is both theoretical and practical, including structured internships in sectors such as think tanks and development organizations, with options like work shadowing or assignment to a project with a supervisor or mentor. Students attend one semester at the Dalarna University Centre for African Studies (DUCAS) in International Relations and Development Cooperation, with study plans approved in advance by the Master’s Consortium Board. To obtain the double degree, students defend the final thesis at both the University for Foreigners and Dalarna University.
