University of Milan Regional Scholarships

Regional scholarships are benefits aimed at ensuring the right to higher education (Diritto allo Studio Universitario, DSU). They consist of a sum of money plus free access to refectory services. The scholarships are funded by the Lombardy Region and the Ministry of University and Research.

To apply, students must be regularly enrolled in a degree programme of the University of Milan and meet requirements in terms of academic merit and income. Students enrolled in vocational master’s programmes and postgraduate medical schools, as well as PhD students already in receipt of a scholarship or research grant, are not eligible. Certain other categories are also excluded, including those already receiving similar benefits for the same programme year, part-time students or those on a shortened career path, repeating students, and students who already hold an Italian degree of the same or higher level.

Regional scholarships are awarded annually through a public competition. Ranking lists are published in provisional and then final form on the Online Service Desk. Students can appeal the provisional ranking list if they claim their documentation was assessed unfairly; after assessment of any supplementary documentation and review of appeals, the final list of scholarship winners is published.

Winners are entitled to complete exemption from university fees and one free midday meal from Monday to Saturday. Partial winners are entitled to a 50% exemption. Payments are made on the Carta La Statale personal badge for access to university services, but the Carta La Statale must be activated as a prepaid card (Flash Up Studio La Statale) to receive payments. For students in the first year, maintaining the scholarship depends on meeting merit requirements by the deadlines indicated in the announcement; otherwise the student forfeits the benefit or must return amounts already received.
