0

Scholarship Description: Applications are now open for Manoogian Foundation Postdoctoral and Visiting Scholar Fellowships; this is made possible by a generous gift from the Alex and Marie Manoogian Foundation. Fellowships are available for International students.

Scholarship Provider: The University of Michigan’s Armenian Studies Program promotes the study of the history, language, and culture of Armenia and Armenians and helps prepare a new generation of scholars in the field. Through its work in the United States and abroad, the program strives to contribute to the scholarly analysis and understanding of the challenges the Armenian people have faced at home and in the Diaspora; ASP adds a comprehensive program to the rigorous curriculum offered by the two endowed chairs in Armenian studies.

Applicants whose first language is not English are usually required to provide evidence of proficiency in English at the higher level required by the University.

Degree Level: Fellowships are available for Visiting and Postdoctoral scholars.

Available Subject: Postdoctoral fellowship is awarded in the field Armenian Studies whereas Visiting scholarships are awarded in the fields of Humanities and the Social Sciences.

Scholarship Benefits: Fellowships for Postdoctoral Scholars: For the 2019-20 academic year, the Fellowship carries a stipend of $50,000 and a $2000 research/travel fund. Fellows will be eligible for U-M’s high-quality benefits package.

Eligible Countries: Fellowships are available for International students.

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Fellowships for Postdoctoral Scholars

Eligibility:

  • PhD required. Postdoctoral Fellows may not pursue another degree while in this appointment, nor may they hold any other fellowships, tenure-track or visiting positions concurrently. Applicants must have successfully defended their dissertation before the start of their potential tenure as Manoogian Fellows.
  • Research and proposed course should be related to Armenian Studies (history, literature, visual arts, and politics). We reserve the possibility to ask the fellow to teach a core course already listed in our curriculum.

Fellowships for Visiting Scholars

Visiting Scholars, who are invited for one semester (Fall or Winter), will be asked to teach one class, participate in ASP sponsored events, and present one public lecture. Fellowships may also be offered for mini-courses to be taught over three or four weeks. Preference will be given to candidates outside the disciplines of history, language, and literature which are already taught by our ASP faculty. Previously awarded visiting scholars should wait seven years before applying for this program again.
