Bachelor of Arts Industrial Design

The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Industrial Design trains students to design manufactured products and develop concepts for items such as furniture and products like cars, home appliances, and toys. Students study core topics in industrial design fundamentals, including drawing, design process, and model making, and then build into advanced 3D modelling, form, and conceptual design. Students also follow industry-focused work across design, ergonomics, sustainability, manufacturing, and innovation.

The programme runs full time over 3 years. It is organised into Degree Level 1, Degree Level 2, and Degree Level 3. Degree Level 2 includes an internship (16 Weeks). In the final year, students produce Professional Project work and an Industry Project, complete a Research Project Report, and present work through an exhibition and related project modules, including Design Analysis, Production Visualisation, and Exhibition Design.

General Requirements

• Direct Entry to Level 1 of the Degree
  • STPM: A Pass in STPM with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any 2 subjects and a Credit in Bahasa Melayu and a Pass in English at SPM level.
  • A-Level: 2 Passes (Grade A-D) in A-Level with a Pass in English at SPM/O-Level/IGCSE or its equivalent.
  • UEC: 5 Grade B’s in UEC.
  • Matriculation/ Foundation: A Pass in Matriculation or Foundation studies with minimum CGPA of 2.00.
  • Note: Pass an Interview OR submission of Design Portfolio as required.
• Entry to Level 2 of the Degree
  • Related Diploma: A Diploma in Design & Media or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00
  • Additional option: A pass in DKM / DLKM / DVM with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 subjected to HEP Senate/ Academic Board’s approval. Those with CGPA of 2.00 need at least two years working experience.
  • Equivalent qualification and / or experience: which is recognised by the Senate / institution.
  • Equivalent note: The above entry requirements may differ for specific programmes based on the latest programme standards published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The qualification and entry requirements for the programmes will be determined based on the "Comparison List of Equivalency of International Qualifications with SPM (O-Levels equivalent) and STPM (A-Levels equivalent)" published by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
