Bachelor of Biomedical Science Everything You Need To Know

The Bachelor of Biomedical Science covers human biology and medical sciences, linking biology with pathological mechanisms to understand how diseases affect the human body. Course topics include Human Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Immunology, Pathophysiology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Biostatistics, and Research Methods. Students also study specialised areas such as Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Neuroscience, Medical Genetics, and Cancer Biology, and complete a Dissertation/Research Project.

It is delivered face-to-face. The provided programme duration is 5 years, with 2.5 years each in Ireland and Malaysia. The content is organised across Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3, ending with a Dissertation/Research Project. Entry routes for international students include an interview and additional requirements such as a student pass application and medical screening.

International students are required to have completed a minimum of twelve (12) years of schooling and must have passed a national or international examination that is recognized by the Ministry of Education for entry into diploma or degree programs. Achieve a general pass in High School Certificate, A-levels, or an equivalent, with at least a Grade C (60%) in any two subjects, and a minimum Grade C (60%) in Mathematics at the Secondary School or O-level.

Interviews are commonly conducted by educational institutions in Malaysia for international students. Interviewers assess communication skills, ethical reasoning, empathy, and motivation to pursue a career in the biomedical sciences. The format may include traditional one-on-one interviews, Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs), or a combination of both.

Student’s Visa Application: Complete the Student Pass application form (IMM. 47) and submit it along with all the required documents to the nearest Malaysian Embassy or Consulate in Indonesia. Medical screening for health includes a general examination by a doctor, along with tests of blood and urine, and a chest x-ray. All international students, except those enrolling in Public Universities, must undergo a medical examination before arriving in Malaysia. Additionally, international students are required to complete a medical examination at one of EMGS’s approved clinics or hospitals within 7 days of arriving in Malaysia.
