Doctor of Philosophy Creative Arts and Media

The Doctor of Philosophy (Creative Arts and Media) at UOW Malaysia KDU provides a framework for speculative inquiry in digital media, communication, and creative practices. Students explore novel research ideologies to add to knowledge in the creative disciplines. Research areas include Sociology, Media Studies, Cinema and Television studies, Digital Entertainment, Communications, Creative Industries, Digital Ethnography, Digital Art and Design, Visual and Spatial Communication, Screen Production, and Creative Writing.

The program includes Research Proposal, Proposal Defence, Research, Thesis, and Viva Voce. Students develop a research proposal to guide the full research process and complete a semester of Research Methodology. After approval, students work independently on their research projects under supervisors’ guidance, then document results in a thesis and present them in an oral examination chaired by experts. Typical thesis length is not more than 80,000 words.

Completion of a Master Degree in the field or related fields and 3 years relevant working experience; or Completion of a Master’s Degree in non-related field with min. 5 years working experience in the fields. (Candidate MUST undergo prerequisite courses). Candidates MUST undergo and pass interview and submission of portfolio and research proposal.

International Student: Band 6.0 in IELTS; or a min score of 60 (IBT) or 8.5 (Essentials-Online) in TOEFL; or Cambridge English (169); or PTE Academic (59). Local Student: Band 5 in MUET.
