Doctor of Philosophy in Computing

The Doctor of Philosophy in Computing at Universiti Selangor (UNISEL) is a research-oriented programme that provides advanced research training and supports independent research skills. Students develop advanced capabilities for computer science and related areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Networking, Internet of Things (IoT), Human-Computer Interaction, and Cloud Computing. The programme emphasises interdisciplinary and applied research using computational and analytical thinking, supported by technical writing and professional presentation.

The programme’s structure focuses on developing research skills, culminating in an in-depth thesis that is presented and defended according to HEP standards. It also develops the ability to build innovative computing solutions and apply numerical techniques and digital tools to acquire, interpret, and extend knowledge in computing. The programme includes professional development through participation in discourses and by publishing and presenting technical materials.

A Master’s degree (Level 7, MQF) in the field of Computing or related fields as accepted by the HEP Senate; OR a Master’s degree (Level 7, MQF) in nonComputing fields with a minimum of FIVE (5) working experience in the field of computing or related fields must complete prerequisite courses as determined by the HEP.; OR a Master’s degree (Level 7, MQF) in nonComputing fields with less than FIVE (5) working experience in the field of computing or related fields must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses as determined by the HEP and subject to rigorous internal assessment; OR other qualifications equivalent to a Master’s degree in the field of Computing or related fields recognised by the Government of Malaysia must undergo appropriate prerequisite courses as determined by the HEP.

Achieve a minimum score of 6.0 in the IELTS or equivalent.
